What can I do for you?

I have designed websites for a wide range of different clients, ranging from businesses and educational establishments to musical groups and photographers. My practical approach, technical know-how and passion for asthetically pleasing yet functional design enables me to provide you with a website which represents you, your band or your business as professionally and appropriately as possible, thus hopefully helping to maximise the return from your investment.

What have I done before?

A picture paints a thousand words, so I can't even start to quanitfy how many words a fully working website is worth! As another saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and to that end I believe the best way of seeing the kind of work that I am capable of is to look to the websites that I have designed in the past. Below are links to a handful of examples of my work, accompanied with a little bit of backgroud about the client and their specification.

Leeds Univesrity Union Backstage Society
www.luubackstage.com

Primarily owing to the high turn over of news and frequency of updates which the society intend for this website, this site was based around the Joomla Content Management System, or CMS. This allows authorised users to update exsisting and post news articles, events or gallery images through a system of menus, similar to those on social networking or blogging sites, thus the user completely avoids HTML or other code.

Cnics Audio
www.cnics.co.uk

The current Cnics Audio website is the third that I have designed for them. In order to make it easy to update it is based around the Joomla CMS, much like the LUU Backstage Society website (above), however this time it is utilised in order to provide an easy to create and update inventory of equipment. The use of a CMS greatly improves the ability to create and manage sites that are complex in structure or have alot of pages or articles, while also allowing it to be updated using simple but secure web-browser-based administration.

Garforth Jazz Rock Band
www.gjrb.co.uk

The Garforth Jazz Rock Band, or GJRB, website is another centrered around a content management system. This type of website was chosen for it's ability to be updated or administered by someone with no knowledge of the underlying technology involved in web site development but in this case using such a system facilitiated the request of the client to have a band member area which can only be accessed via the submission of a correct username and password. I have also designed some printed art work for the band, and example of which can be seen here.

Garforth Community Arts School
www.gcasonline.co.uk

The Garforth Community Arts School, or GCAS, is based at the Garforth Community College, east Leeds. The school, of which GJRB is a part, required a website that could be used as a tool to aid in the progression, administration and organisation of the students attending their sessions. The initial specificaiton requires many features including a student-only area which was accessed through usernames and passwords, the abiility to distribute the production and administration of content with both the tutors and staff and to enable one website to contain several mini-sites for each of the activities that occur in the school. With the sepcification in mind a content mangement system based website was developed which has the ability to fulfil the schools requirements. As well as my web design work, I have also designed a number of posters for the school, including poster1, poster2, poster3 and poster4.

EPA Solutions
www.earsproaudio.co.uk

Ears Pro Audio Solutions' website was developed round the background images which were provided by the client. This website was developed HTML files to hold the content and CSS files to determine form, layout and style.

Linda Skelton Bookkeeping
www.lsbookkeeping.co.uk

This website, muc like EPA Solutions, comprises of HTML and CSS files. It was created form a single word document that contained the client's text, showing how little you need to provide to start off the web design process! Note: This website claims that it was 'designed by helix'. This is true, however, helix is me. To prove it, click on the link!

Highflyer
www.highflyermusic.co.uk

Highflyer contacted me a number of years ago and requested that I build them a website. They were a band comprising of students of the University of Leeds. Unfortunately the band broke up and the website never reached its potential. This website shows some simple examples of the kind of flash work I have undertaken in the past, a technique I have moved away from in recent years owing to it's increased difficultly for the user to maintain over content management system based websites.
